MP3 to WAV Converter

Convert an MP3 to a 24-bit PCM WAV at its decoded sample rate, with mono or stereo channels preserved. Choose a file, preview the result and download it free; your audio stays in this browser.

No upload. No sign-up. Files up to 12 minutes.

Drop an MP3 to make a WAV

Conversion starts when you choose a file. Your audio stays in this browser.

Mono or stereo MP3, up to 12 minutes

Output: 24-bit PCM WAV at the decoded sample rate, with the same mono or stereo channels. No sample-rate conversion.

A WAV is larger than an MP3. Converting it does not recover detail removed by MP3 compression. Tags and cover art are not copied.

How to convert MP3 to WAV

  1. Choose an MP3 file or drop it onto the converter. Mono or stereo files up to 12 minutes long are supported.
  2. Wait for the WAV to be made, then check the sample rate, channels, bitrate and download size. Press Play WAV to preview it.
  3. Press Download WAV to save the file. Choose another file to convert again, or Clear file to release the result.

What sample rate, bitrate and size do I get?

This converter writes 24-bit integer PCM. It reads the MP3's sample rate before decoding, so a 44.1 kHz file stays at 44.1 kHz and a 48 kHz file stays at 48 kHz. If the rate cannot be read, the decoder uses 48 kHz and the result says so. Mono stays mono and stereo stays stereo.

WAV bitrate is sample rate × channels × bit depth. At 44.1 kHz, stereo, 24 bits, that is 2,116.8 kbps, or about 15.9 MB per minute. At 48 kHz it is 2,304 kbps, or about 17.3 MB per minute. Mono files use half as much space. The tool shows the size of your completed WAV before you download it.

A larger bitrate here means more uncompressed data, not more musical detail. There is no MP3 bitrate selector because this page exports WAV only. It does not copy artist tags, cover art or other MP3 metadata.

Does MP3 to WAV conversion change the sound?

It decodes the MP3 and rounds the samples to 24-bit PCM. It does not change pitch or speed, add effects, or recover anything removed by MP3 compression. Use it when a sampler, editor or delivery workflow needs WAV and the MP3 is the only source you have. If you have the original recording, export a WAV from that instead.

For when each format fits, read WAV vs MP3. To finish the track, the how to mix a song guide covers balance, EQ, compression and export.

Decoded MP3 peaks can exceed the range of an integer WAV. When that happens, the converter turns down the whole file by one gain, shared across channels, and shows the reduction in dB. Otherwise the level stays unchanged. This prevents sample clipping during export; it does not impose a true-peak ceiling.

To change loudness, use the loudness normalizer. For an edit, reverse audio plays a sound backwards, and slowed and reverb changes its speed and adds a tail.

Questions

How do I convert MP3 to WAV for free?

Choose an MP3 or drop it onto the converter. It decodes the file in your browser and creates a 24-bit WAV. Preview the result, then press Download WAV. No account is needed.

Does converting MP3 to WAV improve sound quality?

No. The information removed by MP3 compression cannot be recovered. A WAV can be useful when an editor or sampler needs uncompressed audio, and it avoids another round of lossy encoding. It does not turn an MP3 into an original studio master.

What sample rate and bitrate will the WAV have?

The download is 24-bit PCM at the decoded sample rate, with the same mono or stereo channels. A 44.1 kHz stereo file is 2,116.8 kbps; 48 kHz stereo is 2,304 kbps. This is the WAV's uncompressed bitrate, not the original MP3 bitrate. There is no resampling control.

Are my MP3 files uploaded or stored on a server?

No. Decoding, conversion, preview and the WAV download happen inside this browser tab. The audio is never uploaded. Clear file releases the result from the tool; save the download before closing the page.

Can I convert an MP3 on my phone?

Yes, in a browser with Web Audio support. Choose an MP3 from your files, wait for conversion, then download the WAV. Files can be up to 12 minutes long; a shorter file uses less memory. Tags and artwork are not copied.
