# Colorfield Mix Stage: fact sheet

**Every track of a mix, standing in one room.**

Colorfield Mix Stage is a depth and room placement plugin. You put one on every track, and each window shows the whole mix as one lit room with every track standing in it. Drag a track forward, back, left or right and that track sounds as if it stood there: quieter and more distant with depth, with the room's early reflections and tail, the loss of high frequencies in air, and less close-mic warmth. Every instance runs the same room, so the whole mix sounds like one space.

## What it does

- **One stage, one room.** Every Colorfield in a session finds the others and shows all of the tracks on one stage. No audio passes between instances; each one renders its own track and plays the same room tail, so the tracks sit together in one space. Instances find each other when the host loads them in the same process. An instance a host runs in a separate process is kept off the stage.
- **Placement by dragging.** Drag a track forward, back, left or right. Shift-click adds tracks to a selection and they move as one. Depth changes the track's level, its balance of direct sound and room, its early reflections and its air loss together. The direct sound is never delayed.
- **Six rooms.** Tracking Room, Drum Room, Club, Echo Chamber, Loft and Concert Hall. One click moves every track into the next room.
- **Where you listen.** A listener seat from the front row to the back, and three ways the room is miked: ORTF, spaced pair or XY.
- **Level Lock.** Holds a track's loudness while it moves, so you judge where it sits without the volume changing. Hold Shift during a drag to keep the level for that drag.
- **A collisions list.** It shows which tracks mask each other where they stand, counted from their own spectra and how close they are, and suggests a small move for each pair. APPLY makes the move in one undo step.
- **Four scenes and eight stage plots.** A scene stores where every track stands, and a click recalls it with a one-second glide. The plots are starting layouts, from Club EDM to Orchestra.
- **STAGE and PLAN views,** with 100 steps of undo and redo. P switches views.
- **Listening aids.** SOLO keeps a track's own room. ROOM ONLY plays a track's reflections and tail.
- **Automation.** Drags and scene recalls during playback are sent to the host as automation gestures.
- **The Stage app.** A standalone app that opens a folder of stems, places them on the same stage and exports the mix as a WAV file. It needs a license or a trial, like the plugin.
- **A resizable window,** 1152 x 720 up to 2560 x 1600, locked to 16:10.

## Measured

Test-lab numbers from the plugin's own tests. CPU figures are for one stereo instance at 48 kHz in 256-sample blocks on an Apple M4 Pro, measured on a pre-release build (2026-09-25).

| Claim | Measured |
|---|---|
| Latency | 0 samples reported to the host |
| One room | Four instances at four places, mixed block sizes: the sum of their tails matches one tail fed the summed sends to between -120.9 and -122.1 dB (the bar is -90 dB) |
| Distance follows physics | Direct level within 0.114 dB of 20 log(r_ref/r); air loss within 0.042 dB of ISO 9613-1 |
| Level Lock | Holds loudness across depth within 0.329 LU in the worst case (the bar is 0.5 LU); unlocked, the back wall is up to 10.0 LU quieter |
| Block size | Static renders are bit-identical at block sizes 1, 64, 480, 512 and 4096 |
| Bypass | Stereo passes bit-exact; the room keeps running underneath |
| CPU, one instance | About 0.8 % of one core with the full room and the track standing still; up to 1.3 % while a track is moving continuously |
| CPU, 64 instances | 58.5 % of one core with every track static, 91.8 % with every track moving |
| Memory | About 1 MB per instance at 48 kHz (996.0 KiB); window images not counted |
| Checks | 117 of 117 tests pass; pluginval at strictness 10 on VST3 and AU; auval passes |

## Images (in this kit, real renders of the plugin window)

Every image is the plugin's own window, rendered offline by the plugin's render harness from real stems, with every light, readout and collision coming from the running engines. They are not mockups. Please publish them as they are, without recoloring or compositing. The files are in this kit's `images/` folder (the Stage app window is `images/colorfield-stage-app-1440@2x.png`), and renders are on the press page: https://vitricaudio.com/press#press-colorfield.
